PRP – MICRONEEDLING

WHAT IS IT

Microneedling is a treatment where high quality, medical grade, sterile needles are optimally microinjected into the skin in a controlled manner to encourage skin rejuvenation. We then combine the microneedling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections.

Human blood is composed of four main elements: plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. Inside platelets are hundreds of proteins called as growth factors. Growth factors are essential in healing wounds and injuries and supporting the formation of blood clots. PRP also contains cytokines which activate the healing of soft tissue.

The goal of this treatment is to trigger your bodies own natural healing process so stem cells grow more quickly and new collagen formation is constructed. This gives us younger, healthier, smoother and tighter looking skin. Think of PRP as skin regeneration! It is YOUR body’s own filler.

HOW DOES PRP MICRONEEDLING HELP

The growth factors released from the PRP go to work immediately to heal and regenerate our tissue. Effects are seen almost immediately and continue for three months post treatment. PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets and thereby the concentration of growth factors can be 5-10 times greater than normal. This is an all in one solution for aging skin as growth factors regenerate our skin! PRP works well on its own or in conjunction with Botox and dermal fillers.

WHAT DOES PRP MICRONEEDLING TREAT?

Fine lines and wrinkles, loose, creepy skin, loss of facial fullness or volume, acne and acne scarring. This is a wonderful treatment for fine lines around the eyes and deep troughs and dark circles under our eyes! All areas of the body can be treated with the face, neck, décolleté, and hands being the most common areas of concern. We can also treat the scalp either partially or fully to encourage hair growth and restore hair thickness.

NUMBER OF TREATMENTS?

We recommend a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 1-3 months apart. We also recommend maintenance treatments every 6-8 months to continue to your skin regeneration.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN YOUR APPOINTMENT

A Registered Nurse will first draw your blood (about 5mls or one teaspoon). It is then spun in a special centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red and white blood cells. At Refresh Skin Laser, we proudly use the U225 Injector gun. This is the best PRP injector available! Very little trauma is imparted to the skin and very little pain is experienced by the patient.

It takes about 5 minutes to draw the blood, 5 minutes to spin it in the centrifuge and then about 45-60 minutes for a full face, neck and décolleté treatment. This is a totally safe and Health Canada approved treatment. PRP is all natural as it comes from your own body making it virtually one of the safest cosmetic procedures available.

DOWNTIME

There is very little downtime involved. Most people resume normal activities the next day. There may be a little residual puffiness under the eyes from the injections, but this usually resides within 24-48 hours. You may have tiny pinkish dots on the skin for 1-2 days which can be covered with make up.
