PRP – HAIR REJUVENATION
WHAT IS IT
PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Human blood is composed of four main elements: plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. Our platelets include proteins called growth factors. This are vital in healing wounds and injuries and supporting the formation of blood clots. Growth factors are very regenerative to our tissue helping stem cells grow more quickly and new collagen to form.
HOW DOES PRP HAIR REJUVENATION HELP
PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in blood. The concentration of platelets and thus the concentration of growth factors (remember- where the magic is) can be 5-10 times greater than normal. This is a wonderful solution for hair rejuvenation. Small amounts of PRP are injected along thinning areas and areas of concern.
WHAT DOES IT TREAT?
PRP can help recruit new hairs to grow, keep present hair in the growth phase, and stimulate stem cells around hair follicles to thicken and stay healthy.
NUMBER OF TREATMENTS?
We recommend a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 1-3 months apart. We also recommend maintenance treatments every 6-8 months to continue to build upon your results.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN YOUR APPOINTMENT
A Registered Nurse will draw 5mls of blood or about 1 teaspoon. It is then spun in a special, high speed centrifuge to separate the plasma from the other blood components. At Refresh Skin Laser we proudly use the U225 Injector gun. This is the most sophisticated PRP injector available. Very little trauma is imparted to the tissue and very little pain is felt by the patient. Your safety and comfort is our utmost concern and priority to our medical staff. It takes about 5 minutes to draw the blood, 5 minutes to spin the blood and about 45 minutes to treat the full scalp.
DOWNTIME
Virtually no downtime. Most patients will take the rest of the day off, but can resume to normal activities the next day. There may be slight tenderness as the scalp is a bony area with very little fat, but due to the sophistication of the U225 injector, this is a very comfortable treatment for the patient.
