WHAT IS BOTOX THERAPEUTIC FOR CHRONIC MIGRAINE?
BOTOX THERAPEUTIC for Chronic Migraine (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes treated muscles for 3 to 6 months. Botox therapeutic is an approved injectable treatment for chronic migraines available to people who experience headaches 15 or more days a month. Botox is injected around pain fibers that are involved in headaches, meaning that as it enters the surrounding nerve endings, it blocks the release of chemicals involved in pain transmission. This prevents the activation of pain networks.
HOW DOES BOTOX THERAPEUTIC WORK?
BOTOX THERAPEUTIC is considered a preventative medication for chronic migraines as it helps to prevent headaches before they start. We recommend multiple treatments over the course of one year as studies have shown Botox injections seem to have a cumulative effect in relieving the pain associated with chronic headaches. It does take time to work and often more positive effects are experienced with the second and third treatments.

IS THERE DOWNTIME?
This treatment is performed by a trained physician who specializes in this treatment, Dr. Kris Wiebe. It is common to have multiple injections with this treatment so you may have slight bruising, swelling, and tenderness at some of the injection sites. Most people can resume their normal activities following treatment; Dr. Wiebe will discuss post treatment instructions with you in order to maximize effectiveness of the injection treatment.
